TOKYO – Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL, President: Kunio Suzuki) today announced the publication of the company’s “Environmental and Social Report 2003.” MOL states in the Group Corporate Principles that operational safety and environmental protection are key elements along with contributing to global economic growth and maximizing corporate value.
The 30-pages A4-size report explains MOL’s activities in fiscal Year (FY) 2002 to ensure operational safety, environmental protection and social contributions in every phase of the company activities.
MOL deepened the activities for environmental protection in FY2002. For example, MOL acquired ISO 14001 certification for the Head Office and all MOL-operated vessels, and introduced "Environmental Targets Management System" to 36 Group companies to promote a groupwide environmental protection activities in a body.
MOL was selected as one of “Japan’s Green Top Runners” in February by the Sustainable Management Rating Institute (SMRI), an affiliate of the Sustainable-Management Forum (SMF), a Japanese nonprofit organization. In June, MOL was awarded the Physical Distribution Environmental Presentation Activity Prize for promoting environmental protection measures at the Fourth “Physical Distribution Environmental Grand Prix” hosted by the Japan Federation of Freight Industries (JFFI).
In addition, MOL was recently selected for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI). We value these awards and recognition as an indication that our activities in environmental protection.
This is the fourth consecutive year since MOL published the first Environmental Report in 2000 in Japanese shipping industry. This year we have renamed our Report “Environmental and Social Report” in order to touch on our relationship with society as well as environmental activities.
