TOKYO – Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Kunio Suzuki) today announced that M.O. Marine Consulting Ltd., an MOL Group company, has sold its tanker simulator to Philippine Japan Manning Maritime Consultative Committee Inc. (PJMCC) for use in crew training.
The simulator is an exact replica of the cargo control console aboard a modern oil tanker. Trainees can use its virtual-reality system to repeatedly practice load/discharge procedures, especially cargo pump and ballast pump operations, which are vital to safe, efficient tanker operations.
This simulator was developed to train MOL seafarers. In recent years, the company has provided its tanker simulators to the Maritime Technical College in Ashiya, Japan and the MOL Training Center in Montenegro. This is the third time the MOL-developed simulator will be used outside the company, and the first time it is available in the Philippines.
PJMCC displayed the simulator to government officials and business leaders in Manila on December 18. It will be in full operation, training PJMCC Filipino crews for the world’s tanker fleet, starting in 2004. MOL is not only installing the simulator, but is also providing technical support and training, with the goal of providing top-quality education to Filipino mariners.
