MOL's STARLINK System Ready to Go Live

TOKYO - Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Kunio Suzuki) today announced the development of the STARLINK information system to promote the expansion of the company's logistics business.

MOL has been expanding its range of logistics services under the single brand name of "MOL Logistics." MOL understands that information is the key to helping customers manage the supply chain for their merchandise, from the point of origin to the distribution center.  STARLINK is an MOL-developed system that meets customer needs with real-time Web tracking capability and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).  STARLINK's main features are as follows:

Web Tracking

STARLINK provides a user-friendly interface that allows customers to trace their purchase orders and shipments anytime, anywhere over the Internet. With its "Power Search" feature, customers can search purchase orders and shipments in any combination of reference numbers.

STARLINK manages purchase order activities for customers and provides Track and Trace by P.O. number, item number, and Stock Keeping Unit (SKU). Purchase order information includes but not limited to P.O. number, item number, P.O. issue date, In-DC date, shipper, consignee, port of origin, terms of sale, destination, order quantity, unit cost, and so on.

STARLINK also maintains user-defined key activities (events) for each purchase order. The system can also receive event information from a customer's designated third-party or fourth-party logistics provider via direct Web input or EDI.

Events & Exceptions Management

With the "Event Tracking" capability, STARLINK enables customers to set up events and exception rules profile to trigger exceptions automatically by system. The exception notice e-mail will be sent directly to the designated handling person and will be logged in the system until it is cleared.

User Defined Reports

STARLINK offers a User Defined Report feature that lets customers define, run and extract their own report format of report.  With this feature, customers can download all of their required data into a spreadsheet, which can be further manipulated by other PC software or to combine with customer's internal data to produce more complete, more useful reports.

Landed Costs

To help facility customers manage their landed costs, STARLINK allow them to define, group, and capture different landed cost components to produce landed cost analysis reports at P.O. and item levels.

Landed cost information from other services providers, such as destination customs brokers and other transportation companies, can be received in STARLINK via direct Web input or EDI.
