TOKYO - Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Akimitsu Ashida) today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary MOL (China) Co. Ltd. has opened Representative Offices in Quanzhou, Fujian province and Wenzhou, Zhejiang province. The new offices started operations such as PR activities, information gathering, and other liaison activities related to MOL services.
MOL has promoted the expansion and enhancement of its network as part of a three-year plan for its new China strategy that began last year.
MOL sees Quanzhou as a market with great potential for growth as more and more manufacturers move into the area. As a production center, it accounts for more than 50% of the export cargo through the port of Xiamen, a gateway port for Fujian province. Wenzhou city is also attracting many light manufacturing companies, and emerging as a production center for export and import trade with Africa, Central and South America, and Europe through the port of Ningbo port, a gateway to Zhejiang province. In the future, MOL will offer fine-tuned, localized services through new MOL (China) representative offices.
The opening of these two representative offices brings the total number of MOL offices in China to 22, including the Shenyang office, which opened in May this year. The company will continue to open new representative offices and branches to expand its network and provide higher levels of service in China.
